Lapis Lazuli is a stone that has been highly revered since ancient times, especially by people such as the ancient Mesopotamians, Egyptians, Romans, Greeks and Persians. To this day, the most abundant source of Lapis Lazuli can be found high in the mountains of Afghanistan, where it was originally mined all the way back to 6,000 years ago, if not longer. It has it's history in the word of visual arts, as before the 19th century it was used by painters to create blue pigments, such as those seen in the sky and waters, by grounding it up. This means that many paintings people view from long ago that contain blue hues, have been most likely created with the help of Lapis.  Lapis Lazuli is highly associated with Royalty, as it was loved by Kings and Queens of times past. In ancient Sumeria, It was recognized as the stone of Deities.
